Kid's FAQ and Tips for Parent's:
Inquiring minds want to know...

Q: "Are you a real clown?"
A: "No, I'm an elephant in disguise, but don't tell anyone."

Q: "Is that your real hair?"
A: "No... but it runs in my family you know, my mommy & daddy and all my brothers bought purple hair, except Baldy, he didn't buy any hair, I think he was adopted."

Q: "Is that your real nose?"
A: "Yes...I have a receipt for it and all."

Q: "Are your feet really that big?"
A: "No, my mommy bought my shoes this big so my feet can grow into them."

Q: "Do you go to the bathroom?"
A: "ABSOLUTELY not."

A few helpful ideas for everyone…

Regarding Live Entertainment:
If you’re having an outdoor party and having entertainment, weather permitting, a lawn or patio will work well providing it is not too windy and not FULLY exposed to sun. Neither the children nor the entertainer will do well with an hour under the glare of the bright sun and humidity. If entertainment is to be held outside, it should be in a somewhat shaded area, an open garage can also work well. Please keep in mind that Buttons wears 2 layers of clothing… can you imagine what a costume character feels like?

Looking for a place to have a party?
These are some of the many places Buttons had parties- Church Halls, VFW’s, Community Halls, Parks, Pizza places, Restaurants, Bowling Lanes and the list goes on. Depending where you live you might be familiar with some of these restaurants and pizza places… You can tell them Buttons sent you!
* larger room for parties

*Scott Manor- Justus *Arcaro & Genells- Old Forge
*Georges Restaurant- Jessup Maroni’s Pizza- Scranton
*Genetti’s- Dickson City Marvelous Mugs-Moosic
Arcaro’s- Taylor Wegman’s Market Café- Dickson City

Honking Noses, Stomping on Shoes A BIG NO-NO:
Contrary to popular belief, most clowns noses DO NOT HONK! And stomping on clown’s feet is a Big NO-NO! The shoes cost BIG $$$, they are custom ordered, and are made of leather- not plastic and therefore not cheap!

Another common problem is that children like to see what is in a clown’s bag. This could very well ruin a surprise for the birthday child, also clowns props are not toys and they are needed for the next party.

Regarding Pony rides and Bounce Houses:
It's great! But try to schedule it before the entertainment arrives, or after the entertainment leaves. It's hard to compete to pony rides, or a Bounce House etc. Also there are times the entertainer often has other engagements afterwards and cannot be expected to wait.

"I Ain't Afraid Of No Clowns" school program
This program is geared towards the 3 to 7 year old who is unfamiliar with or hesitant towards clowns. This is a SUPER program, we cover many things and have much FUN while circus music plays softly in the background. The children will also get to see Karen transform into Buttons (with a little less makeup of course). While in the guise of Buttons the clown, she will do a magic trick or play a short game or covers balloon safety while giving everyone a balloon animal.
Apprx. Time: 1 hour

"We can't solve all problems, but here are a few helpful hints..."

"Is your child afraid clowns, Santa, costume characters? Here are a few tips that may help"...

Most fears can be overcome with patience and understanding. First... do not invade your child's comfort zone by bringing him to close too new people or situations. Encourage him to watch from a distance, and give him time to assess the situation for himself. Don't expect children to enter a strange room and be able to "sum it up " with the same speed as an adult. Be patient, don't anticipate negative reations. Encourage your child to confront new situations and praise him when he is brave.

Stay calm! You must watch your own "body language". Do not clench your child or try to shelter him by quickly pulling him away. That will only transmit that there is something really wrong.

Be kind and sensitive, but also be a matter of fact. Don't allow your child to manipulate you into leaving a party or store by acting scared to death of something that really wont hurt him. Reassure him that "HE IS OK" and you plan to stay.

Don't "hype" the activity too much. Too much preplanning can backfire. Imagination can cause great anxiety in young children, so allow him to experience new things as they occur. That way he wont shut out new experiences before he's seen what is involved.
